ONSRA E-Skate Gloves video preview: black glove with a wrist strap holding a remote controller

Our own video on the ONSRA E-Skate Gloves. Tap the thumbnail to play.

If you ride an electric skateboard, a longboard or a regular skateboard, your hands do two jobs at once. They hold the remote, and they are the first thing that wants to meet the road when something goes wrong. Most gloves only solve one of those problems. Motorcycle gloves can be stiff and clumsy around a controller. Thin fabric gloves feel great, but they do very little when you slide.

That gap is exactly why ONSRA makes its own skateboard gloves. We build electric skateboards, we ride them, and we designed our glove range around the way riders really ride: fast, remote in hand, and sometimes on the ground. The result is a full lineup of electric skateboard gloves, skateboard gloves and longboard gloves: short-finger and long-finger, ultralight and race, weather-resistant and Kevlar-reinforced.

Our position is simple: we are the experts in skateboard gloves for this sport, and we believe we have the best skateboard gloves available for electric skateboarding and longboarding. That is our brand claim and our position, based on how the gloves are built, not a lab ranking. This guide shows you every style, what each one is for, and where one is not the right pick.

Short answer: which ONSRA gloves should you buy?

Want the most protection in a cut that still lets you feel the remote? Start with the RACE gloves or the Short-Finger gloves. Want your fingers covered? Look at the Long-Finger gloves.

Want something light and minimal? Pick the ULTRALIGHT gloves in short-finger or long-finger. Want Kevlar? That is the BONES KEVLAR. All of them are in the ONSRA gloves collection.

Which skateboard gloves fit your riding? A quick guide

  • Fast riding and maximum protection with remote feel: RACE or Short-Finger, both with palm sliders, a wrist insert, knuckle protection and a double wrist strap.
  • Cooler weather or full finger coverage: Long-Finger with the same protection features, or the lighter ULTRALIGHT Long-Finger.
  • As light and minimal as possible: ULTRALIGHT Short-Finger (black or white) or ULTRALIGHT Long-Finger (black or white). No plastic insert, single wrist strap.
  • Using your phone with gloves on: ULTRALIGHT Long-Finger, BONES KEVLAR and ULTRALIGHT BIKE list touchscreen-compatible fingertips on their product pages.
  • Kevlar reinforcement: BONES KEVLAR.
  • Wind and weather on an e-skate or e-bike: ULTRALIGHT BIKE with its weather-resistant, wind-blocking upper.

Why skateboard gloves matter

We will keep this honest and practical. No scare statistics, just the reasons we never ride without gloves.

Your hands go down first

When balance goes wrong, instinct sends your hands toward the ground. Your palms, your wrists and your knuckles take that first contact, and asphalt is unforgiving. Gloves with a palm slider and knuckle padding put something between your hand and the road, so a fall is more likely to end as a scuff on the glove instead of on you.

You need your hands to ride

On an electric skateboard your right hand is the throttle and the brake. If a hand is sore, scraped or numb with cold, your control suffers. A glove that keeps the remote easy to hold is not a luxury, it is part of riding safely.

Wrists and knuckles are easy to forget

Most riders think about palms first. Our RACE, Short-Finger and Long-Finger gloves add a wrist protection insert and a double wrist strap, and our product pages describe the knuckle protection as a way to cushion your landing on your knuckles instead of on the remote.

A fair warning: no glove can promise that you will not get hurt, and gloves do not replace a helmet or the rest of your protective gear. They are one of the cheapest and most useful pieces of it. For the rest of the kit, browse our protection collection.

Why ONSRA gloves: designed by riders who build electric skateboards

Plenty of brands sell gloves. Here is what makes ours different, using only what is written on our own product pages.

1. Built around the remote

Our RACE, Short-Finger and Long-Finger pages list a “perfect controller grip”, and the ULTRALIGHT gloves have textured fingers for your remote. It is the problem we know best, because we build electric skateboards and ride them with a remote in hand.

2. Palm sliders on the core styles

RACE, Short-Finger, Long-Finger, ULTRALIGHT and BONES KEVLAR all list a palm slider, the hard panel on the palm that is there to reduce impact and help the hand slide instead of catching.

3. Knuckle protection that you can actually use

The idea is practical: if you go down with the remote in your hand, you can land on your knuckles rather than crushing the controller. We show this in our long-finger video further down.

4. Wrist support where you want it

RACE, Short-Finger and Long-Finger come with a plastic wrist insert and a double wrist strap. If you want less structure, ULTRALIGHT and BONES KEVLAR use a single strap and no plastic insert.

5. A style for every rider, sizes S to XXL

From fingerless to full finger, from ultralight to Kevlar, black or white, e-skate or e-bike. One brand, one size chart, and gloves designed by a company that builds electric skateboards.

6. We say what each glove is not

We do not oversell. ULTRALIGHT is about feel and low bulk, not maximum structure. RACE is about protection and speed, not stealth. The comparison table below shows what is listed for each style, and nothing more.

Electric skateboard gloves, skateboard gloves, longboard gloves: what is the difference?

In practice, not much, and that is good news. People search for electric skateboard gloves, skateboard gloves, longboard gloves or “esk8 gloves” and mean the same thing: gloves that protect your hands and still let you hold a remote or ride a board.

What really changes the choice is how you ride. Electric skateboard riders need remote feel and quick finger control. Longboarders who push or carve want grip and a palm that can slide. Regular skateboarders mostly want light, flexible protection. Our range covers all three, and several product titles even say it: “Longboard and Skateboard Gloves”.

The ONSRA glove range, style by style

There are seven styles on this store, nine product pages when you count black and white separately. Every feature below is taken from the product pages, and every photo is from the product page it links to.

RACE Longboard and Skateboard Gloves: built for speed

Pair of black ONSRA RACE skateboard gloves with open thumb and index finger and a double wrist strap
Hand in an ONSRA RACE glove holding an electric skateboard remote controller

The RACE glove is the one we point fast riders to. The product page describes tough palm sliders, a wrist protection insert, knuckle protection and a double wrist strap, all in breathable synthetic leather. In the photos you can see the race cut: the thumb and index finger are open, so you can feel the trigger or wheel on your remote, while the other fingers stay covered.

Our page makes the point this way: even in a fall you can keep the remote in your hand and cushion the landing on your knuckles. It is a protection feature and a control feature in one.

Features listed on the product page:

  • Palm slider
  • Wrist protection insert
  • Knuckle protection
  • Double wrist strap
  • Perfect controller grip
  • Breathable synthetic leather

Who it is for: fast riders, racers and anyone who wants the most protection we offer in a remote-friendly cut. Price at the time of writing: €72.

The Short-Finger glove is our fingerless design. All the fingertips are open, which gives you the most feel on the remote and the most air on a warm day. The product page lists the same protection set as the RACE: palm sliders, a wrist insert, knuckle protection and a double wrist strap.

It is a good fit for summer riding, commuting and anyone who rides with a remote all day and wants nothing between their fingertips and the controller.

Features listed on the product page:

  • Fingerless design
  • Palm slider
  • Wrist protection insert
  • Knuckle protection
  • Double wrist strap
  • Perfect controller grip
  • Breathable synthetic leather

Who it is for: riders who want full finger feel with protection on the palm, wrist and knuckles. Price at the time of writing: €64.

The Long-Finger glove has the same protection set as the RACE and the Short-Finger: palm sliders, a plastic wrist insert, knuckle protection and a double wrist strap, with the fingers covered. The photos show small perforations on the glove, and the product page lists breathable synthetic leather.

In our video above we walk through it: the knuckle protection, the way the plastic insert is bent to follow the hand rather than sitting flat (and can be taken out), and how it feels when you hold a remote. We are also honest in that video that a long-finger glove gives a little less remote feel than a short-finger one, but for cooler rides it beats a bare hand.

Features listed on the product page:

  • Long-finger design
  • Palm slider
  • Wrist protection plastic insert
  • Knuckle protection
  • Double wrist strap
  • Perfect controller grip
  • Breathable synthetic leather

Who it is for: cooler rides, riders who want their fingers covered, and anyone who also rides a motorbike (the product title says so). Price at the time of writing: €72.

The ULTRALIGHT line is for riders who think the standard gloves are more than they need. The Short-Finger version brings a low-profile palm slider, textured fingers for grip on the remote or the handlebars, and subtle knuckle padding, with no plastic inserts. It is clean, compact and made in black or white.

Features listed on the product page:

  • Low-profile palm slider
  • Textured fingers for grip
  • Knuckle protection (subtle knuckle padding)
  • Lightweight design, no plastic insert
  • Single wrist strap

Who it is for: riders who want a light short-finger glove with the core protection. Price at the time of writing: €48.

The long-finger ULTRALIGHT adds touchscreen-compatible fingertips, so you can check your phone without taking the gloves off. Everything else follows the ULTRALIGHT idea: a low-profile palm slider, textured fingers, subtle knuckle padding, no plastic insert and a single wrist strap, in black or white.

In the independent review above, the reviewer found the gloves a little stiff at first and more flexible after some use, and described them as a good middle ground between access to the remote and protection. They also mention that they went one size down from their usual size, which brings us to the sizing section below.

Features listed on the product page:

  • Long-finger design
  • Touchscreen-compatible fingertips
  • Palm slider
  • Lightweight design, no plastic insert
  • Knuckle protection
  • Single wrist strap
  • Grippy and breathable synthetic leather

The BIKE glove is described on its page as “our lightest and most versatile gloves yet”. Spandex finger gussets add flexibility.

It was designed for electric skateboarders and e-bike riders who want grip and control without bulk. Think everyday rides, urban commutes and trails.

  • 3-layer laminated, weather-resistant, wind-blocking upper
  • Leather palm, grippy even in wet conditions
  • Spandex finger gussets

The BONES glove is our Kevlar option. The product page says the genuine Kevlar reinforcement keeps the glove tough but flexible, and pairs it with a low-profile palm slider, textured fingers, touchscreen fingertips and subtle knuckle padding. There are no plastic inserts, so the movement stays natural. And yes, the skeleton-style design is bold.

It is listed as suitable for electric skateboards and motorcycles, with a long-finger design and a single wrist strap.

How to choose your size

Our gloves use one size chart. Measure your palm circumference, the distance around your palm just below the fingers, without the thumb, and compare it with this table from our product pages:

Size Palm circumference (cm) Palm circumference (inches)
S 19 7.48
M 20 7.87
L 21 8.26
XL 22 8.66
2XL (XXL) 23 9
  • In our long-finger video we advise against sizing up: if the glove is too big, there is too much slack around the fingers and the wrist wrap. The rider in the video takes M in the long-finger glove and L in the short-finger one, because short-finger gloves are easier to take off.
  • The independent ULTRALIGHT review further up mentions being between S and M and finding S the better fit. Hands differ, so treat this as one data point, not a rule.
  • Still unsure? Contact us at [email protected] with your palm measurement and we will help. You can also check our return policy before you order.

Looking after your gloves

The product pages do not list washing instructions, so we keep this general and practical:

  • Let the gloves air-dry naturally after a sweaty or wet ride, away from direct heat.
  • Wipe the palm slider and the wrist insert (if your style has one) to clear grit and dirt.
  • Check the strap and the stitching from time to time, especially after a fall.
  • Protective gear does not last forever. If a glove has taken a hard fall and is damaged, replace it.

Skateboard gloves FAQ

What are the best skateboard gloves for electric skateboarding?

It depends on how you ride, and we are of course biased. We believe ONSRA makes the best gloves available for electric skateboarding because they are designed around remote control and protection together. For maximum protection, look at the RACE or Short-Finger gloves. For light and minimal, choose the ULTRALIGHT line.

Do I really need skateboard gloves?

You can ride without them, but your hands are usually the first thing to touch the ground in a fall, and you need them to hold the remote and brake. Gloves with a palm slider and knuckle protection are one of the most affordable pieces of protective gear. No glove prevents every injury, and gloves do not replace a helmet.

What is the difference between electric skateboard gloves, skateboard gloves and longboard gloves?

Mostly the name. They all describe gloves for riding a board. What changes the choice is how you ride: remote feel for electric skateboards, grip and a sliding palm for longboarding, light protection for skating. ONSRA gloves cover all of these.

Short-finger or long-finger skateboard gloves: which should I choose?

Short-finger gloves (RACE, Short-Finger, ULTRALIGHT Short-Finger) give the most feel on the remote and the most airflow. Long-finger gloves (Long-Finger, ULTRALIGHT Long-Finger, BONES KEVLAR) cover your fingers and suit cooler rides.

Can I use my remote with gloves on?

Our gloves are designed for it. RACE, Short-Finger and Long-Finger list a perfect controller grip, and the ULTRALIGHT gloves have textured fingers. How a glove feels on a remote also depends on the remote itself. Short-finger styles give the most direct feel, and a long-finger glove gives a little less.

What is a palm slider?

A palm slider is a hard panel on the palm of the glove. It is there to reduce impact and help your hand slide across the ground during a fall instead of catching on it. RACE, Short-Finger, Long-Finger, ULTRALIGHT and BONES KEVLAR gloves list one.

Which ONSRA gloves have wrist protection?

The RACE, Short-Finger and Long-Finger gloves have a plastic wrist insert and a double wrist strap. The ULTRALIGHT and BONES KEVLAR gloves use a single wrist strap with no plastic insert, and the BIKE glove has an adjustable wrist closure.

Can I use my phone with the gloves on?

Touchscreen-compatible fingertips are listed for ULTRALIGHT Long-Finger, BONES KEVLAR and, on the index finger and thumb, ULTRALIGHT BIKE. It will not be as precise as a bare finger, so keep expectations realistic.

What size should I order?

Use the palm circumference chart above (S 19 cm to 2XL 23 cm). If you are between sizes, pick the one that is snug but comfortable and check the sizing tips above. Our team at [email protected] is happy to help.

Can I wear ONSRA gloves on a motorcycle or an e-bike?

The Long-Finger, ULTRALIGHT Long-Finger and BONES KEVLAR pages mention motorbike or motorcycle use, and the BIKE glove is made for e-bike riders as well. We do not list a safety certification on the product pages, so check the page for your style and your local requirements.

Do gloves replace a helmet or other protection?

No. Gloves protect your hands. A helmet and other protective gear protect other parts of you. Browse our protection collection for more.

Ready to protect your hands?

Every ride is better when you trust your hands. Pick the style that matches how you ride, check the sizing, and you are set. We built the gloves we wanted for ourselves, and we are happy to say we know this category inside out.
